Chrome: Disable hardware acceleration (graphic card)

Disabling video graphic card hardware can help if you are seeing blank screen, graphical glitches, lag, or weird behavior in Chrome, especially with video playback or UI rendering.

To disable hardware acceleration in chrome on your windows machine:

Steps

1. Open Chrome.

2. Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner and select Settings.

3. In the left sidebar, click System.

4. Toggle off "Use hardware acceleration when available".

5. Click Relaunch to restart Chrome and apply the change.

To confirm it's off (optional):

1. Type chrome://gpu in the address bar and press Enter.

2. Look under Graphics Feature Status — most items should say "Software only, hardware acceleration disabled".
